frequently asked
the questions people send a.j. most often. answers are plain english, no marketing fluff. can't find what you need? email a.j..
- how does callyomomma work?
- you sign up, pick a voice (auntie, homie, conscience, sage, or your own), and tell us how often you want to be nudged. we send the nudge as an email or push notification on your cadence. the nudge won't dismiss until you log that you actually called her.
- is callyomomma free?
- yes. free, no billing, no premium tier. it started as a 25-person experiment and grew from there; the doors are open now.
- what happens if i don't call my mom?
- the nudge stays. on purpose. the only way to dismiss it is to log a call. you can also snooze, change cadence, or pause anytime from settings. ignore us for a week and we stop nudging until you take any action.
- what data does callyomomma keep?
- your email, optional phone, your timezone, your mom's name, things you love about her, and the journal entries you write after calls. never sold, never shared. the optional uploaded photo is sent to gemini once for cartoon stylization and dropped from memory before the response returns — only the cartoon is stored.
- is there still a waitlist?
- not anymore. callyomomma started as a 25-seat experiment with a waitlist and referral queue-jumping. the doors are open now: sign up and you're in. if signups ever outpace what keeps the nudges good, the cap comes back.
- how do referral codes work?
- every user gets a unique referral code on a /r/<code> link. when someone you refer signs up, you get a +1 credit (capped at 3). back when there was a waitlist, credits jumped the line; now they're mostly bragging rights.
- what if my mom doesn't have a smartphone?
- doesn't matter. callyomomma reminds you to call her, not the other way around. the nudge goes to you. how you reach her — landline, smartphone, in-person — is up to you.
- can i use callyomomma for a parent who isn't my mom?
- the product is mom-shaped by default — the voice, the journal prompts, the seasonal mother's day nudges. but yes, plenty of users use it for a dad, a grandparent, a sibling, an estranged-but-mending family member. nothing in the product enforces it has to be your mom.
- what makes callyomomma different from hey mom or call mom?
- two things. first, the dismissal gate: most reminder apps let you tap to clear the nudge. callyomomma keeps the nudge alive until you log that you actually called. second, the voice — your nudge comes in the tone of an auntie, a homie, a conscience, a sage, or a character you describe yourself. the goal isn't to remind you, it's to land.
- is my call data private?
- yes. the journal entries you write after calls live in supabase under your account and are never shared with anyone. delete your account from /settings and your user row, mom data, reminders, call logs, and journal are wiped. hard delete, no recovery.
- what does otranto labs do?
- otranto labs is the personal-projects umbrella a.j. otranto ships small, hand-built websites under. callyomomma is one. read more at otranto.ai.
- why is the name callyomomma but the domain callyomommanow?
- callyomomma.com was already taken when the project started. callyomommanow.com captures the urgency in the name and was available. both names point at the same thing.
